Discipleship Training School
The Discipleship Training School is an intensive Christian discipleship course beginning with 3 months of lecture/teaching phase followed by 3 months practical field assignment (Outreach phase). It is a prerequisite for all other courses in the University of the Nations, and also serves to orient and prepare all new YWAM staff.
The Discipleship Training school is designed to encourage students in personal character development, cultivating their relationship with God and identifying thier unique gifts and callings. Cross-cultural exposure and global awareness are special emphases throughout the course, preparing the students to evangelize and disciple current and future generations, answering the call to “Go into all the world and teach (make disciples of) all nations.” (Matthew 28:19).
THE PURPOSE OF DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING SCHOOL IS TO…
- GATHER and CHALLENGE people. This can be done through worship, and learning to listen to God and to obey Him. They can serve through evangelism, intercession, acts of compassion and other expressions of God’s heart for the world. This may even include pioneering new ministries.
- INSPIRE and CULTIVATE growth in one’s relationship with God and to form a Christ-like character based on the Bible. This includes: the work of the Holy Spirit; the understanding of God’s character and the message of the cross.
- SHARPEN one’s ability to work with, learn from, and relate to people of different cultures, personalities, and perspectives.
- Further EQUIP each one to serve God’s purposes. This should strengthen a commitment to reach the lost, especially the unreached, to care for the poor, and to influence all areas of society. This could be either within or outside of YWAM’s family of ministries.
- IMPART the vision and foundational values of Youth With A Mission Inter- national, as well as that of the host operating location. It will also provide information regarding a variety of opportunities for service.
